Amgen is the new name of the Applied Molecular Genetics Company, and it is an American biopharmaceutical company. Amgen's headquarters are in Thousand Oaks, California. The company is best-known for two closely related drugs - Neulasta and Neupogen - which are used to prevent infections in patients who are undergoing chemotherapy. They are also the makers of Enbrel, Epogen, Aranesp, Sensipar/Mimpara, Nplate, Vectibix, Prolia, and XGEVA. As of 2016, there were over 19,000 people working for Amgen.
